A Clue-Themed Wedding in Wisconsin
What a cool concept with these two lovebirds on the ISO:ALT blog this week – a Clue-themed wedding! Their guests dressed to impress to celebrate their nuptials with all the epic ness that comes with a themed wedding.
From the photographer:
“Daniel + Seth had one of the most fun, intimate, and creative weddings we’ve ever had the good fortune to photograph! I mean, who doesn’t want to be involved in a Clue-themed wedding, complete with candlesticks, lead pipes, and toy guns for props?! The ceremony held in Olbrich Conservatory in Madison, WI, and the reception at Louisianne’s in Middleton, WI. The amazing cake (seriously, wait until you see it!) was made by Gigi’s and make sure to scroll all the way to the end to see the surprise this cake (and these two awesome grooms) had in store for these wedding guests!”
From the grooms:
“We wanted our wedding to be relaxed and fun, and not at all traditional, as we are not traditional. Neither of us harbored dreams of grand weddings with an expansive guest list. We have a small, close group of family and friends who are very important to us, and we thought of our wedding as being as much for them as for us. That we kept the wedding small also made it more intimate. We were able to have conversations with all of our guests, rather than having time for only brief congratulations.
The way we approached our wedding was organic, as in first we found the venue. Once we secured Bolz Conservatory, we thought of the Clue theme, which is among Seth’s favorite games and movies. Our guests loved the idea of dressing as characters, and the theme of the wedding grew from there.
In order for our wedding to come together the way we wanted, it took a lot of creativity from not just our friends and family, but also all of our vendors who were so readily enthusiastic and up to the task. It was a joy to be with people who were so committed to the wedding theme, and had fun doing it. Noticing that we’ve used the word “fun” twice already, that we and our guests have fun was paramount on our list of what we wanted for our wedding day. We love to laugh and enjoy life, and that was what we wanted and got for our wedding.
The day of the wedding was not without its unforeseen snafus, and despite the small amount of stress associated with the unex- pected, we did our best to be flexible and roll with it. We like to say that 95% of what we planned came together without any hiccups, and with the 5% that didn’t, we just changed plans. There were no groomzillas—well, not that we’ll admit to, anyway.
What was probably most surprising about the wedding was the emotional impact it had on us. Seth and I have been together for 10 years and had always said that we would never get married. A year ago, quite spontaneously, we changed our minds and decided to forge ahead with our marriage commitment. With all of the planning we put into the wedding, the luck of nding the awesome people we did in our vendors, and our emphasis that our wedding was to be an unforgettable party, we didn’t anticipate the emotional overwhelm of actually speaking our vows to each other, for the rst time, in front of our closest family and friends. We’re not really sure of the word or words to describe it, but the feeling was incredibly powerful, shook our voices, and moved our guests.”
